Westchester Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness offers regular classes that combine the effective techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Combat Submission Wrestling and Kickboxing. The staff at WMMA will soon be certified to offer classes in Muay Thai (also known as Thai Boxing).These four martial arts, taught together as part of one curriculum, provide a well-balanced close quarters and ground fighting self-defense system that is unsurpassed. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is the most effective fighting style ever developed. This exciting martial art rose to prominence during the mid and late 1990s, when Royce Gracie used it in the Ultimate Fighting Championship events to defeat a number of experienced martial artists schooled in traditional fighting styles like Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing and Wrestling. Combat Submission Wrestling Created by MMA expert Erick Paulson, blends Judo, Freestyle Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai and Greco-Roman Wrestling with techniques and submissions from Shootwrestling,, Sambo and Catchascatchcan. It is laden with effective submission holds and a multitude of highly effective leg locks. This highly evolved style provides the perfect compliment to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. Muay Thai/ Kickboxing Muay Thai (also known as Thai Boxing) is a fighting art that originated in Thailand (formerly Siam) 2000 years ago. Often called the "Toughest ring sport in the world" it is known for its powerful techniques of punching (boxing), elbows, knees and kicks. The Muay Thai practitioner must have superior speed and conditioning through hard training. |
